"I'm being followed by a moonshadow, mOOnshadow."

Oh Brother Islam. It's a good thing that you're a peaceful Muslim b/c I would've thrown a hissyfit (but I have cancer! God Forbid). Brother Islam got deported in 2004 because his name was a match on some secret list they have somewhere.

"the deportation prompted Jon Stewart to quip, "We finally got the guy who wrote 'Peace Train."

This is the kind of crap that pisses me (and I imagine, other moderate Muslims) off. If the Homeland Security can't get this kind of stuff right, well, it also scares me.

has something new happend? or is this just an extremely delayed reaction to his 2004 deportation? that is understandable as in 2004 you were in law school busy debating whether a sick student should attend class, so perhaps now you are catching up on the news?

i personally don't remember it (his deportation) - wait, do i even remember 2004?

C: The only new thing is that he's coming out with his new album soon and he may not be able to come into the U.S. to promote it. I'm merely heading off the hoopla.

And I was upset then too.

And y'know full well that I never went to school sick. I rarely went when I was well. ;)

You can't remember his deportation b/c of all the drugs you took in your wild youth ;)

actually, after i wrote that comment, i realized "brother islam" was cat stevens and then i remembered 2004 - silly me. guess we can't blame this one on the Aleve.

we actually discussed cat returning to music on the world scene (that is my dad discussed it and i listened in) he said "i predicted this would happen" i don't rmember that age - or if i do, i was oblivious to Yusuf Islams's previous life, so listening to daddy comment on in as a person who did remember taht time... well, i was basically clueless.

I remember him getting deported. The thing that disturbed me the most wasn't that a moderate muslim was deported but that the public, that used to love Cat, wouldn't really defend Yusuf.

I just saw on CNNTurk that Yusuf made a remake of a song from his past with a Turkish singer. It sounded pretty good. Half Turkish and half the old song. It was billed as the song he wrote for his wife that he has refused to perform for years. But my source is Turkish news so..you know, believe some not all.

My only comment is that I have this memory of you (HIK) coming into my (and Raven's) office and talking about Cat Stevens/Yusuf one day. This would have been pre-deportation. I think it was a mini-obsession.

I saw a news piece last week about a family who has trouble flying because their 4-year-old son has the same name as someone on the watch list. Durh.

O: Yes, you are too polite to mention that I had a crush on him. Until I realized that he was OLD OLD OLD. Like really old, y'all.

S: I remember when he got deported that the general consensus was, "well, he must have done something. Surely the U.S. isn't so inept to just randomly deport someone for no reason."

Sigh.
