Oh, now we can stop worrying

Commission being formed to promote national unity

I can see it now:

Let's discuss why the tribes hate each other

Maybe it's because of all the violence and murder during the civil war? Which was led by warlords (cough, sitting here, cough) and directed towards other ethnic groups.

Old men start banging on the tables in an effort to drown out the lone voice of reason. Whoever said that is an infidel!!!

Let's talk about raising our salaries!

Wakils (Parliamentary members) clapping in appreciation and shouting 'God is Great'.

Great, the National Unity Commission is established. Let's all talk about how we need more money.
Aaahh, democracy.

I work with Afghans and I am very interested in learning more about Afghan culture.

Would you know whether "sheikh mohammadi" is a sub-ethnic group of Pushtoons?

He he, now that is a gift. You make a point which is in fact extremely depressing - but you make it with enough biting wit to make me laugh, before I cry.

he he he, sigh

Oh my gosh. I'm having flashbacks to graduate school, and to doing research for a prof for his book on reconciliation after civil and international conflict.

I second Frida's comment. You have good wit. ;-) And sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying.

Anonymous: I think you should start with the books that I recommended on the sidebar (lower right-hand side). I have no idea about Sheikh Mohammadi. That sounds like it is the name of a patriarch of a family...not the name of a family/tribe or anything. There are lots of pashtoons though, so I may be wrong.

Frida: Well, I was in the middle of re-writing the top side bar (the anonymous disclaimer) to how much I hate afghanistan but I decided that I should just let that go for now. Yeah, sighs is right! :(

O: Yeah, it's just sad...

Thanks for the compliments ladies!

Dear HomeinKabul,

Thanks for responding. I will definitely be checking for the books on the side bar.

When you have a moment, please, please could you ask around about Sheikh Mohammadis? They seem to be some kind of clan/tribe. There is scant info on them online and I don;t have access to a library that carries books on Afg.

Thashakkur in advance!

Dear anonymous,

I'm sorry but I have no time to find out about the sheikh mohammadis. Have you asked the Afghans that you work with? Or posted on any Afghan message boards? Do a google search for Afghanistan or Pashtun message boards - I'm sure you'll find something. Good luck.

Dear HomeinKabul,

I totally understand that you are busy. Good luck with exams and I will pray for your relatives.

I have done it all - asked Afghans I worked with (they gave conflicting opinions and anyway without going into too much detail about work, I am not supposed to really take their opinion at face value) googled and looked at Afghan forums. So far no luck.

Thashakkur anyways:-)
